District 9 was a great movie for a number of reasons. The parallels to Zionist Israel, it’s Gaza concentration camp and apartheid are striking, to say the least. One of the things that had a big effect on me was the alien child in the movie and how innocent he seems even though he is an insect or “prawn” as they’re called. I walked away wanting to sponsor a family of prawns for just “25 cents per day”. Call me a softy, I don’t care. All we are is dust in the wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnddd!!!

District 9 is a movie about An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth…

The film opens with a documentary-style series of interviews that introduce the story: twenty years prior, an alien ship arrives above Johannesburg, South Africa. It hovers above the city for three months without any contact; eventually humans take the initiative and cut into the ship. They discover a large group of aliens who are malnourished and sick. The aliens are later assessed as being “workers”, with their leadership mysteriously missing (it is hypothesized that a plague may have wiped out all of the leadership-caste). Grainy footage shows part of the ship (supposedly a command module) falling to Earth, but nobody has been able to find it, leaving the ship still hovering but inoperable.

The creatures are given permission to leave their craft and live on Earth but are housed in a squalid government camp. The alien race’s true name is never learned; they are primarily referred to as “prawns”, a derogatory term referring to the bottom-feeding sea creature they resemble or, more rarely, “non-humans”. Overcrowding and militarization eventually turn the area into a slum known as District 9.

Besides the alien part and the fact the Prawns arrived in a ship…the situation seems eerily similar to the current Palestinian situation in Gaza, aka their open air concentration camp policed by a oppressive Israeli Military

Compare the treatment of Prawns to Palestinians in the video below – The similarities are uncanny…

Here we have the fictional Multi-National United (MNU), a private company that shows little regard for the aliens’ welfare abusing a little Prawn child and his father.

Now here we have the Israeli Police brutally battering a Palestinian before attacking a protesting bystander…

and here we have another…

So here we have it. Fictional Prawns treated like shit by a corporate occupying force, and the real-life Palestinians, being besieged by land, by air, by sea and deprived of the most basic requirements of a decent life: freedom of movement, clean water. For seven years they have been under a brutal and lethal Israeli siege … You shell them and you bomb them; you destroy homes, you destroy whole neighbourhoods. You obliterate, annihilate, whole families, and then you come and say that this is self defence?”
